Hi all I have issues with my battery overheating and letting off steam. Voltage is sitting between 13.6 - 14.0 volts which was tested over 45 mins. Can anyone recommend a new battery that I should purchase? I'm assuming the alternator should be fine. Taking the car to the local mechanic tomorrow to have suspension fitted.

Thank you

P.S it is a d40 2010 Nissan Navara. Sorry.

i regularly use delkor as a cranker
depends on where you are as to price and availabilty
the delkor silvers crank a little more but the standard calcium is fine

If its letting off "steam"......um that will be acid mist buddy be careful.....I assume its a screw top battery.

Is that "steam" coming out of one or more cells and is the electrolite level down in one or more cells more than the others?.....In that case the battery has probably dropped a cell.

Now with the engine turned off and the battery at rest for at least 15 minutes...what is the terminal voltage?.......if it is other than 12 - 13 volts ( realy about 12.5 volts) .....particularly considerably less like 10 to 12 volts ..its dropped a cell.

If the battery is boiling its head off in all cells and no cell is dramaticaly down on fluid more than the others....AND...ya resting voltage is around the 12.5 ish no lower.

Your alternator may be over changing......ya battery may still be $#@!&...um unservicable.

Always get ya alternator checked when fitting a new battery.

Now what battery to buy....cheap is bad value.....don't wast ya time on anoter screw top unless you are selling the car.

If it takes a standard N70 battery like most 4wds ( that is a batterey about 300mm long about 180 wide and about 200 high....and has N & 70 in the part number.
My prefered is the Supercharge Seamaster Gold marine battery in the same size.

cheers

Ya often means YES, so he is unlikely to have a YES battery or a YES alternator.

Wow, did the Grammar Gestapo finish the morning crossword, get bored and go looking for trouble? I thought Bantam's reply was perfectly understandable, and very helpful.

Following up on a serious note. Alternator is fine - battery is replaced with a Bosch sealed. Very happy with it. Also got to test the new suspension out on the bus! One very happy camper here all round...except for this rain we're getting. Good for the crops I suppose! On YA's for ya replies and sense of humour!
