I would like to clean the rings around the stove burners however I dont want to use anything abrasive or a chemical that will harm the polished surface.
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I often helped my mate that cleans houses, he has never found anything to clean them. But what he does is runs them over a grinding brush. The aluminium comes up like new. That is the way he does it. You could after giving them a buff back, spray them with a Heat Resistant Clear lacquer.

There is a product called "Purple" it's great for polishing metal. I even buffed some scratches out of a Stainless Steel sink with it. I got it from Repco I think.

Hello Cruiser 3.
If they are aluminium and not coloured I use soapy steel wool pads brings them up a treat.

The best aluminium polish I have used is called "Autosol". It is a very fine polishing paste which polishes off contaminants, oxidation etc.
Another product which is milder is "Brite Shine" which is a yellow tin full of cotton wadding soaked in possibly cloudy ammona. Great for shining up dull aluminium.
