Hi Muzbry

Looks like I am 10 days older than Bonz.

I am sure there are a lot of us oldies still around.

David & Michele must be doing something right.

Gday Rob
So far in my short life, this is the longest I have ever been associated with any one thing , not including work or marriage .

Found it myself... :-)

For others benefit, if you click on the link alongside the member photo that says Member: My Profile then you see the details being discussed here.

Mine is 18 Mar 2005

If you go into the members list and produce a state listing the members names are all clickable links. If you hover your cursor over any members name you can see their join by date and a few other things.

Muz,

With all due respect to Bonz, I thought he'd been around forever! Seems I've wheeled him by 4 days.

Those were the days(insert sigh), with plenty of good banter, discussions and "dummy-spits".

Thanks Muz,
Bob.

Yep... I joined 14/3/2003.... Joined in regularly in discussions and loved the comraderie. Nowadays I go weeks without checking in as it is a very dry forum. Okay if you want some techinical details, but not the good old discussion and chatfest we used to enjoy.

What about David give a bit of recognition to such length of service, maybe a 10 year member banner at the bottom of the displayed profile picture or something similar.

Just a thought :))

I just thought that Life members get a little recognition label maybe the same for 10 year members?
Doesn't have to be over the top, but would be a nice indication of appreciation by EO to those who have contributed to the site all these years.

Yes, sounds good to me. I don't post much, but spend a bit of time on here.
I am missing the posts by a lot of the "Oldies" as they were when I joined, sadly some aren't with us anymore.
But to add to Bob Y's post, don't put the new members in a "sleeping bag" category and the elder members in the Winnebago category. :), the handbrake and I are nearing 60 and we can't go where we want to in one of them.
Mmmmmmmm, now where do we go next?

Yeah John like ebay, sort of.

Or..

Have a rating scale say from 1 to 20, 20 being almost unachievable.

Add 1 for each year of membership.
Add 0.05 for each forum thread written with more than 500 views
Add 0.005 for each reply to forum thread
Add 0.005 for each thanks you get
Add 0.01 for each item you sell in the shop (you still haven't sold that fridge John)
Add 0.01 for each item purchased in shop
Add 0.5 for each Trek note uploaded and 0.05 for every 100 downloads.
Add 0.01 for each picture uploaded.
Add 0.2 for every blog that has more than 500 views and 0.05 for every 500 views thereafter.
Add 0.1 for every user trek above 50 kilometres and 0.05 for every 100 downloads
Add 0.05 for every new place you upload
Add 0.01 for every modification to a place.
When you get to 20 you get the Platinum star and some shares in the company.

Whadya think? lol..

Michael - there were quite a few others on the forum back in 2002, however some have dropped off for various reasons over the years and many more have joined since. And, just David and Michelle in the office.

Notice your roof top tent and screen - we have a howling moon & screen which we use from time to time, depending on where and what we are doing in the outback. A great overnight set up.

Like your signature quote - very true.

Best wishes Jinki

Hi Jinki & Harry, Yes the forum back then was very innovative and the experience and tips of others flowed! Back in 1999, we were flying along at a great pace to get out of a dust storm on the Oodnadatta Track, tyres pumped up to 50 psi in our first brand new Patrol and blew a new tyre to pieces. We learnt quickly and started the quest to learn more of how to get around safely and keep out of harms way. We found this site and it has been of immense help over the years! We now have the kids almost off our hands now, the youngest finishing school next year and the other starting UNI so we hope to start using the roof tent more often and enjoying some of the places we have yet to discover. As we age, I guess a van will be in order but its great for the time being and requires a small footprint to set up and gives us some freedom to get a little further off road. Yes, how true is the quote, You don't get extra brownie points from anyone for spending months on end on the front lawn, pulling out weeds! If you have a great partner, getting out and about is truly the best thing. Best regards, Michael

I wonder if there is a "BEST BEFORE" date which is applies?

There is one thing that could be fixed up. There does not seem to be much consistancy in what appears before the posters name up in the top LH corner of each message. A lot have member before their name. It does not matter if they are life members or yearly subscription members.

Peter! You can remove that when you enter your screen name. You can tell by the profile caption at the bottom of the post if they are a member but I see what you mean. Some members prefer or don't bother to place a photo or signature. Michael.

Whatever happened to members like "Willem" ? He was such a great poster. So knowledgeable and entertaining to read. I learnt so much from him. Without any disrespect to current members...there seems to be many experienced members who have left or no longer making comments on posts. Just my impression.

Yes, Willem was very knowledgeable and it was sad to see him leave the forum some time ago.

In our early days of travelling, we had stopped in Peterborough for a coffee. Had the small Exploroz sticker on the back window of our Patrol when towing our Caravan. When we arrived back at our rig, guess who was standing beside the vehicle to introduce himself? Willem, he has given us a lot of very helpful advice over the years, especially anything to do with Flinders. We miss him and his comments.

There are many others who too, have dropped off for various reasons. Whilst we don't post very often, we do check every few days to see what is news!

G'day All

I became a member of this very informative web site waaaay back on 4th. July 2001.

Nearly every day I peruse the forum pages and add a comment or answer a question on a few occasions. I used to engage more frequently but the "Armchair Experts" (luckily few in number) turned me off, but I still glean valuable information and tips from some of the knowledgeable people who submit to the forum. I do miss the banter between a lot of the now lost older members.

I am trying to remember when it was that Bonz and a couple of mates visited me at work in Broken Hill. It was during the Outback Challenge probably in 2004 or 2005.

I have only been a member since 2005 but I did lurk in the shadows for a couple of years before that.

Like others I post less than I once did and nearly didn't sign on again this time.

I might hang around to try and see off the other "Elderly Members"

Some form of recognition for extended years of membership might reduce the chance of me fading away.

I'll put my hand up for 3/6/ 2002
i think that makes me the old man of the ACT contingent.
I did however come across some of Michelles old trip reports( dont think they were called blogs then) in 1999 when researching for a cape york trip and remember well the start of EO.
there have been a lot come and go over the years but must admit I still see many of the people regularly that i met in the early days of the forum.

amonst the people i camped with this weekend was one ex member I first met at an EO get together at Bendethra Aug 2004

Will always remmber that when i first posted under my curent tagafter becoming a member someone posted they hoped my first name wasnt little johnny.
cheers

G'day Robin,

What is your membership No.?

Mine is Member 70, if you can beat that then you have been a member longer that me. I don't think there are many members still around who have been a continuous member as long as me. Perhaps members 1 - 100 could get together and form a Senior Members Club.

Woodsy here

Been a member since August 2002 and a Life Member for a few years so I 'suppose my membership years will just accumulate
I view and absorb EO every morning except if I am away on a trip or something

I have learnt many valuable things and added a small number of comments etc, had a lotta laughs and sometimes wondered about the sanity of some members, but the mix is enjoyable

Possibly one of the older members at 71 but I plan to continue using the site, adding what I can if I think it will help and recommending EO to others

Congratulations David & Michelle and all you other old buggers on EO
Happy 4 wheeling
