What condition is Billy Goat Bluff track in currently.
Planning to take my camper up Wombat Spur, on to Eaglevale then Billy Goat Bluff, this weekend. Have done track a few times in varying conditions. Even taken this camper down in dark, but never up it.
What do you think?

Hi twinkles

So jealous that you get to go up there this weekend. I used to live in Bairnsdale so that area was our backyard. Can't comment on current condition but I do remember it was the first track I was crap scared driving on as a newbie tripper years ago! Great fun though. Not sure i would be brave enough to drag my trailer up there but if you have he confidence then enjoy it.

Cheers

Hi there

I was down there 2 weeks ago and did the track twice in 4 days. I had not done it before and was worried about it but did it easy both times in the Bravo with 2 inch lift.

Track was in good condition but the top 1/3 was wet and a bit slippery. Had to move over half way up at the rocky section to allow 4 4wds with campers to pass on there way down.

Don't know what you drive but you would know its limitations. My only concern would be not making it up on a section and having to back down with the camper on.

Regards Peter

I did it last wednesday and it was ok. I wouldn't like to drag a trailer up it but that's just me....each to his own. Cheers

I went up BGBT this time last year in my non-lifted 120 V6 Prado. Not a problem. I don't think I scraped bottom once. As long as you pick your lines and the high spots, no problem. I also don't think I'd like to drag a trailer up that track, especially if it was damp. It would be a hand full.

We were with a group there a few weeks back. 100 series 4.2 TD auto and no real suspension mods and one odd standard shockie as one had broken earlier. Luckily we carry a spare. As far as I know no one in the group had any hassles. We cruised up (excuse the pun). Of course it's not a smooth climb. You can't just slam it into gear and race up. But I wouldn't call it hard.

I was actually disappointed considering it's reputation. Not after rock climbing as we don't want to damage the car. The views from the ranger shack on the Pinnacle made up for it. Spectacular views.

There was a tree across one of the tracks that not one of the group made it around in one go. Some had to wriggle quite a bit to get ariound. My memory is bad but I don't think it was on Bill Goat. May be after it on our exit to Dargo via Castle Hill and Junction Spur. I wish that I could recall where. Ask the ranger because you wont get a trailer around it even if you try to winch the back around to get through. Too many big trees around.

Check with the ranger.

Phil,

There was a tree across the track going down Castle Hill that was quite a tight squeeze for sure. Billy Goats was a clean run up last week.

I should have said you wouldn't get a trailer around that tree in my opinion. A sharp little turn that the car only just made with a couple of extra turns and backups.

That's it. We were going up hill heading away from the Pinnacles. Is that the same one that you saw?

We have a meeting next week and I think a few are going to do the same track that we did.

Is this the one you saw. Quite a large hole left by the root ball that could grab a wheel. Not the best of photos

Phil.

Yep, that's it. Someone had filled the hole with logs when I did it. Cheers.
