Hi folks

A friend of mine has just had a look at a 1985 model 60 series auto Landcruiser for $4000.00 which need approx $1500.00 in repairs, shocks, windscreen, and tyres.

Firstly is this a reasonable price for this vintage vehicle or should he keep looking?

Secondly, if he is going to spend atleast $5500.00 for this beast would he not be better off looking for one at the $5500.00 mark in better condition?

This beast is in Melbourne Victoria so if any one out there has something better could you let me know and I will forward all comment on to him.

Thanks for all the help.

Tony

P.S. sorry for the previous post as I am still getting use to doing post's.

Gday Old 55,,,I think he maybe better looking for one in a bit better condition, there are a few around for sale. You have to watch the gearboxes on those old girls as they suffered bearing failure and are very expensive to repair,I owned two of them in years gone by and had to rebuild the gearbox in both. Also they tend to rust badly around the roof gutters but as a 4WD they were good,I would say keep looking.

it all depends on the vehicle . If it rust free , then thats something to look at , I paid $ 4000. 6 months ago for one wich was turbo diesel with a blown motor because I couldnt believe how rust free the body was . If it is around the South melbourne area , I would be more than happy tolook at it for you .Venus Bay

Im in with the above. If it aint got a good body then walk away because putting money into rusty old landcruisers is madness. On the other hand if its like Erics and mine with a good body and just needs mechanical repairs that can be accurately estimated then its a different story .They are great old buses and can still do many jobs as well as later models if you can put up with the lack of power and the horrendous fuel consumption, unless its a diesel and that makes it even sweeter.

I'm told that there is "Some" rust in the roof but have not seen it so don't know how bad it is.
The vehicle is in Werribee and I don't feel good about where it is for sale as I have seen some of this car yard's vehicles before and they were very rough.

I think I will tell my friend to keep looking.

BTW it is duel fuel and not desiel.
