Does this device come with 12v Adapter?
Compatibility with 40 Channel old GME 40 channel UHF?
Effective range over flat country with sand dunes?
Thanks

Hi Equinox.
Bought the same Radio recently from ExplorOz site. Pretty pleased with it. Yes, it does have a 12v Charger for use from vehicles cigarette lighter.

First you have to find out if it is pre programmed by VMS for the CBRS.

Any 5 watt UHF handheld will work much the same as any other brand 5 watt UHF and if programmed with the CBRS 80 channel allocation it will be compatible to the older 40 channel CBRS UHF radios.

Range will vary considerable from maybe 1km to 15km...... the biggest deciding factor is antenna, on handhelds you have a few options with antennas..... the standard little rubber duck or one about 300mm long; then of course the vehicle mounted ones.

Can't tell you much about the VR-1200 but I would expect dealer support would be very limited and nearly non existent in most areas, as for spare parts you would probably have to source from the importer..... by far GME would have the biggest dealer network in Australia followed by Icom then Uniden.

Hi Alan

Re hand held UHF.

I've had a Wouxun KG-UVD1P for over twelve months and its been fantastic. The cost was around $120 AUD. Since that purchase over a dozen have been bought by friends and mates, some have fitted them as in car UHF's which shows how many accessories you can get for them.

As for the range, the in vehicle set has the same range as GME and Unidens. The being variable factors being terrain, antennas etc.

Charging is from both 12v and 240v; it has a Li-on battery so charging is only thru a battery charger, not just plug in.

Check them out here
Wouxun

hi phil
thanks for the site
just checked it and the model you bought have come down and can be bought for $107 free postage
so I think I gathered that the battery has to be removed and placed in a battery charger to recharge it
did I get that right ??
and if so I'm wondering if extra battery's are obtainable
which would allow a quick change -over while the other one is on charge
is that how the situation is ??
could you clarify this please
thanks
cheers

Unless I'm missing something, there is very little information on that product listing. How would I know that is is intended/approved for use in Oz? I see it is listed on the Oz Ebay site, but some confirmation would be nice. And maybe a few more specifics.

I'm interested in this because if I do the Maralinga tour, I'll need to have a UHF radio to listen to the tour narration! I will be hiring a 4WD for my trip so there won't be a radio in the vehicle. And since I don't live in Oz, I don't want to spend a lot of money on something I assume can't be used elsewhere.

Yes it has the 12v charger - take a look at the other files/images tab on the item page in the shop and you'll see it shown. David has bought one. And yes it'll be compatible with your other UHF.

Hi Equinox,

I sent your questions to VMS, and have received a response from them this morning:

"Yes the VR1200 comes with a 12V charger.

Yes it is compatible with the GME and comes with 40 extra channels (80 channels in total).

The range of the VR1200 is 5-7 kms line of site."

Just let me know if you require any further information at all.
