So what will be the total additional weight you'll be hanging off the rearmost point of the van?
Is there any additional (read not factory fitted or factory balance allowed for) equipment also hanging off its bum? (tyres, water/fluid storage, steel bumper etc)

The tyre has been removed and we will carry it on the roof racks, 2 adult bikes & 1 child's bike roughly 40kgs.

I have built a bike rack on he back of our Jaycio discovery attached to the spare wheel bracket seems to work all right. At down
hill racing last weekend and a company yakima were selling all sorts of bike racks and they had one that fits straight on to the spare Tyre bracket on 4x4 good idea, I suggested it would be great for the caravan but they said the warranty (life time warranty on their racks) would be void as they reckon too much movement on the back of the van. So far
mine has been great.
Hope this helps.
Rob

Hi , if they are road racing bikes they will be half the weight of mountain bikes .I fitted a 3 bike rack to the drawbar on my van . Our new van was ordered with bike rack on rear for our road bikes but I will probably fit the old rack on van drawbar for my mountain bike .

Check out
isi-Racks
They are not the cheapest racks around but great quality and rugged design. I have the Extreme 4x4 version.

Friends of ours travelling through Northern WA had wheel bearing problems with their van (it had been serviced prior to leaving Southern NSW) and the WA mechanic told them that part of their wheel bearing problem was caused by the 2 road bikes on a bike rack at the back of the van. He also suggested that as they had increased the overall registered length of the van he thought their insurance company might use that as an excuse to reject a future claim.
They ditched the bikes.
Right/wrong decision I don't know!!!!!
Stay safe & stay
well

We also made a bracket that allowed us to attach the rack to our spare wheel on back of van. No photos sorry but it worked
well as no issues :) (last trip, didn't bring our bikes this time, just the kids)
