A senior ranger is not sure how a freshwater crocodile has ended up in an outback river system at Birdsville in Queensland's far south-west.

The ranger-in-charge of the Simpson Desert National Park, Don Rowlands, says local residents spotted the one-and-a-half metre long reptile in the Diamantina River at the town this morning.

Thead here.

Maybe they could hold crocodile races.

Cheers,

Hope a Topend local can enlighten us, but don't salties inhabit fresh water too at times ? Doesn't matter much how it got there - if I was fishing the Diamantina I'd like to know which variety it is :-o).

That's brilliant....this story is right up there with the golf club that claims to have a shark in their dam, they even convinced one the tv networks to do a story on it....funny stuff.
