Seems there is a spot gen 3 coming soon to replace the spot 2 gps messenger.
Any one have any ideas when it might arrive in Australia?

Some sites in the US are taking pre-orders.

John,
I have asked Adele to investigate with the Australian supplier and will advise once we know.

One of the nice changes is tracking on movement and variable tracking recording intervals down to 2.5 mins (the subscription cost more for the faster rates though). But the movement activated part is cool if the batteries are not seriously impacted when in this mode.

Thanks David,

Yes, figures I am hearing is tracking set to 30 or 60 mins gives 40 days plus battery life.

Also, has usb port, so if vehicle mounted and running off usb, it bypasses the batteries , giving more battery life.

As you mention, the motion sensor also extends battery life.
(Could be negative for some, if tracking in one spot for a while, is a hiker in trouble?)

And, that is not all!!! Think the spot 3 may be OK with rechargeable batteries?

Hi John,

Unfortunately, the supplier has informed me that there is currently no release date for the SPOT 3 in Australia.

As soon as we have a release date and pricing from the distributor I will ensure we make the SPOT 3 available for pre-order on the site and publicise via the newsletter.

I also wanted to quickly let you know some information that I received from the distributor last year when asking about devices from the US, as it could be problematic to purchase overseas:

"Any SPOT product purchased via EBay or any overseas supplier has no Australian Warranty or support. It also has no C Tick approval number so it is technically illegal to bring into, and use in Australia as all communications devices must have this."

Hi oldplodder

Bugger just when I went out today and bought a H.u.d. it now looks like I will ( have to have ) the new spot as 2.5 tracking is far better than my spot 2. Well as they say he who dies with the most toys wins,
Will be keeping eye out for it.

cheers DBN05
I NEVER get lost, but don't i see a lot of NEW places.
