I have rigged up for travelling around OZ with the family, van and a 4x4 quad bike. We are able to access medium 4wd areas the likes of ningaloo station. Son and I love beach combing/fishing etc. Anyone got some advice on the amount of use I will get with the quad or is there a book/online site or am I wasting my time as the areas we can ride are few and far between. We have done a bit of riding on beaches on the south coast of WA and ningaloo station and state forrest. Really keen on hearing any opinions or information at all.

In NSW at least, all dirt roads, beaches, reserves, etc, are classified as public roads. Get caught riding an unregistered bike on these you will get fined as unregistered/uninsured, no helmet if not wearing one, and if no bike licence, unlicenced.
There can be some places exempt from this, don't know where, but they would be far and few.
Kids, or at least their parents, can also get fined. Depends on the officer who catches you. Many will give a warning first, but if they catch you again......

Buy an old Haflinger and you can do it all legally as they are road legal - same size, weight, power etc as a UTV.
