Hi Everyone....Im now living over on the East Coast of USA and really need some advice.

We are looking to purchase a 4Wheel Drive again...Hardly any landcruisers over here...We looked at the F150 truck but too expensive...anyway...Ive discovered that the LEXUS 470 is exactly the same as the Prado Grande??? It has a V8 Engine liters: 4.7. Inside is just identical to the Prado Grande...except the front bucket seat 6 can esky fridge aint there...typical

We are considering a vehicle and it has done 153,000 Miles. It is a 2003 model...little bit of rust as its been pulling a boat and the bloke before obviously tilted the back end into the drink a bit too often maybe?

Guys....Your Thoughts on this vehicle...what should we be looking for? what should we expect will go wrong with it....Any ideas?

Price we have bet them down to is $9k....

also....Ive told the husband (yank) that we can use toyota parts on the lexus...*we can cant we*???

Missing AUstralia....and we will be back one day...

Oh forgot to ask....we are expecting to tow a VERY LARGE POP UP dual axle 4695 lbs dry weight...(2,129 kg)

cheers lyndal

It's not a Prado Grande, It's a Landcruiser (per AU models anyway).

The rust is the first thing I would have a good look at. How serious is it?

The 470 is the Prado equivalent and the 450 is the Landcruiser equivalent in the USA.

Pretty much all 4WD's in the north east are disposable after a few years due to the salted roads and snow.

The 450 is based on the Prado platform and the 470 is the 100 series Landcruiser platform..... l would love to see how they got the 4.7lt V8 in the Prado platform.

Both are a worldwide model and are available in Australia under the same model designation.

Apologies. And Dayum - why didn't we get the V8 Prado?

Ummm.... patsproule and olcoolone aren't as wrong as all that. The LX 450 is based on the 80 series, and the LX 470 on the 100 series; so it's an understandable mistake to interpret "Lexus 470" as equivalent to a Landcruiser. But I imagine the OP was indeed referring to the GX 470, not the LX 470.

Hi Lyndal. Any vehicle over here that lives within half a k of salt I would have to be very wary of. It starts corrosion not only in the body panels, but in the electrics and mechanicals. I had a 10year old Hyundai in my workshop last week. The power window would not slide up evenly. Turned out the channel for the Baily rubber had rusted away a section and there was no support for the glass. $200 for a new part. With your prospect, I would at least get it on a hoist and check the rear Brakes, Brake lines, fuel lines, and as much of the mechanicals as possible. These are the sorts of things that can happen when close to salt/water. Cheers,Bob.

What are you planning to use the vehicle for? Will it be used on the dirt at all? Sounds like maybe you're really just looking for a large vehicle to tow with, vs. something that will be good for four-wheeling.
