Has anyone ever had any problems with the 5 speedauto box in the 100 series? I have 30000 k on my approx 6 mth old V8 and have just noticed it occasionaly not dropping into first untill you are about to move off and it clunking in sometimes a few seconds after you stop. Usually only just noticable but one of the first times I noticed it I actually thought I had been nudged by the car behind. It is about to go in for a service and it is exactly the sort of slight intermittant thing that they always say thay cant find on a test but is irritating as you are always watching out for it when you know it is not quite right. Would appreciate it if anyone else has had similar or knows what I could ask them to check.
regards

My 3.0l Surf does the same thing, sometimes it feels as though it's doesn't go into first until you put your foot down to take off. Not sure if that's what it is though. As you say it's barley noticable, but it does niggle somtimes.
Mind you my surf is nearly 10 years old! I can put up with it, but I wouldn't on a new 100 series!!

My 80 series (a 4 speed auto) sometimes sounds like the whole transmission is about to drop out. Local dealer (and other 80 series auto owners) say that it's OK and just one of those things about that auto. I thought that Toyota had fixed it in the 5 speed 100 series, but maybe not??

Yes i have a friend who has the 4 speed auto in a 100 series 6 cyl and he was never entirely happy with the transmission, Though Toyota did offer to extend his warranlty on it on the grounds that it might be annoying but wasnt going to actually break. I would have thought that with the new one it was sorted though?
