Hi All,
Got a 'phone call from my son last night, he has broken something in the front axle of his '79 series on Frenchmans Track. It has intermittently stiff steering and it sounds like something to do with the swivel housing or axle. He is limping into Weipa today. Can anyone recommend a mechanic in Weipa who has done some work for them?

I have had work done at RACQ Weipa and almost needed a bank loan to pay for it. They can see you coming for miles. Barnray

I'd try taking the front prop shaft & the free wheeling hubs out then see if that fix's the steering. Quite possibly a blown front diff. If that's the case then he could drive it home in 2wd if he wanted.
Cheers Craig..

He has almost definately smashed a cv, and it needs to come out so he can steer. The good thing is an 80 series part time c/v will fit in if he can find one.

Hi guys, thanks for your help. He is in Weipa and it's a CV joint and chewed axle. At $180 per hour labour I expect a plea for monetary assistance soon.I told him welcome to the world of 4WD touring,
Regards, Robert
