Drive up the snowy mountains hwy and turn right just past providence portal (top end of Eucumbene) towards Lake Tantangra you can drive up and around the lake visiting Currango homestead and come out on the snowy mountains hwy at Yarrangobilly caves area. There is a gate at the Yarrangobilly end where it meets the Snowy mountains hwy,you will need to check wether its open at this time of year(seasonal).
The main road crosses the lake and with Tantangra at 26% the water will be close to road height so it may pay to check this out at the fishing shop in Adaminaby.
Between the dam wall and Currango homestead there are a few side tracks to the east that are definitely worth exploring.
Just before you get to the lake itself there is a track to the right up the hill which takes you to a trig station which has fantastic views out over the lake
If you have decent off road mapping then you will see the tracks.
Leave early in the morning as you can certainly spend all day up there.

What sort of treks? Have you been to Yarrangobilly Caves? I like the drive from Canberra to Adaminaby via Boboyan Rd through Shannon Flat. The Namadji NP is up the northern end of that. There are a few fire trails off the Kiandra-Cabramurra road that are usually covered in snow this time of year. The Barry Way from Jindabyne down to the border towards Suggan Buggan is very scenic as well. There's a few kilometres in all that :-)

Hi, you will find that Tantangara is all locked up for winter as is just about everything that is not tar in the National Park. It will be tricky to find much at all close to Adaminaby. You could go out to where the old town is submerged and go fishing since skiing's a no go....W

There is a gate at the Yarrangobilly end subject to winter closures but you can still get to the dam from the Providence end.

Hi Hunjy100, things may have changed but IMO the gate on the road to Tantangara Dam at Snowy Mtns Hwy near the Providence Portal caravan park is closed in winter.... W

The only reason I say that is they are are still getting fishing reports from Tantangara in the past week.
