I recently came across a reference to a bloke who owns a 76 series Landcruiser who claims he has spent between $200 & $250K in setting up the vehicle.
Now this is a substantial amount of dollars in anyone's book and I'm intrigued to known how he substantiates these numbers. $75K for the truck still leaves $125 to $175K to account for.
The vehicle has a marine radar mounted in it (I kid you not!) which whilst costing a few bucks would still leave a pretty big shortfall in reaching his claimed numbers.

The guy who owns it calls it "The Ghost Rider" or something similar.
The vehicle appeared in Australian 4WD Action issue number 177 around February 2012 as a featured vehicle.
I was wondering if someone on here may have a copy of this issue and could perhaps scan and post the article on here or email it to me.

Lots of us spend lots of dollars setting up our vehicles and that's the rightful prerogative of the owner of this 76, to each his own, but the numbers claimed are extraordinary.

The Mag also has a 4.2 TDI GU putting out 500HP.
Look at the pretty pictures but dont read the words as the content is BS.

I don't buy the mag for the obvious reason, but as I said just intrigued to see how he justifies the claim of the dollars.

I can readily see $20 or $30K by the time you add drawers, bar work, a chip. HF radio etc. Maybe $10K for his radar, it doesn't add up.

Here's a link to the video on the vehicle, I hope the actual article provides more detail, hence the request for a copy.

I think we should all have Marine Radar especially for the wet days.

I suppose it is real good for detecting yachts on Lake Eyre or the local duck pond.

Perhaps he just uses it instead of a microwave for cooking the evening meal.

The 500HP GU is real Craig - although the guy wasn't happy that Super Patrol is more powerful.

G`day John,
If he wants all that stuff and can afford it then that`s his call I guess.
Looking at the video(@ 0.32) I reckon I seen a Bendigo ARB sticker on the windscreen, if I am correct, and assuming he had the gismos fitted by them, then that may account for the extra $ $ $ `s.
How many hours to fit it all and @ how many $`s per hour ?
Probably got out of it cheap really.
Like I said though I`m just guessing. LOL

Scrubby,

Even with labour I still can't come to terms with the numbers claimed.
I have fitted my Troopy out with a similar range of stuff as to what he has (No radar!!!) and it comes nowhere near the amounts claimed.

As I said earlier, if he did spend that much money it his perogative, he earned it he can spend it.
I just want to know what's in the thing to reach those numbers :)

youse seem to be quick to judge the bloke..

he could possibly use his vehicle for work.
such as travel overseas..

a surveyor of some sort, that requires the gear to do the job...

woow soo much negativity

people buy chev silverados and import them or buy them here, yet you see no one whinging..
good tow vehicles, with luxury features, and a solid donk that can tow a mountain goat.

or some buy a top of the line winnebego.. for over 330..
and you don't hear people whinging about that..

"Judge the bloke"!!
I must have missed something?
I quite clearly stated several times that it was his perogative to spend his dollars as he pleased.
I'm simply interested to know more about the vehicle and what may be fitted that made it so costly as he claims.

I would think the radar may be a bit over the top for most, but you may be right, if he's traveling "overseas" then the radar may very well be useful in avoiding other cars....sorry boats :)

Not sure why you think a Winnebago etc has anything to do with the topic at hand?

looks like he is after someone to sponsor his overseas holiday, whatever floats your boat, but a 3.6 t i think he may be in for some insurance problems if he stacks it, but in saying that it would look pretty cool sittin on its roof, total waste of money and i cant see 220 g in it for the life of me.

Perhaps the sponsorship dollars for the proposed overseas showings are really the end game. With all the Mods the dollar cost would soon add up . Hope he can recoup some of his outlay. At 3.6 tonnes not for me Regardsjohn y

Without a doubt, the ugliest 76 I have ever seen. I have the mag at home and cannot see where the money has gone, this guy clearly has more dollars than sense and if I were to judge a man on how he looks, he clearly looks like he doesnt have much sense. You just cant justify for having some of the accessories on a vehicle that that vehicle does. I think the only value he would get is the fact he might drive it to shows to tell everyone how much it cost to build. I reckon if it did go bush, have of that stuff would fall off from the corrogations.
Each to their own though.

He's nuts according to those in the know and is a bit of a dooms day kind of guy...

You suggesting he's a "Prepper"?
Prepper being one who plans for a "survivalist" type scenario.
That would make some sense of the vehicle fit out.

When he kicks the bucket do you think he will reflect on time and energy lost preparing for uncertainty?
Very similar to me preparing my press conference speech after I win the gold medal in the 100mtr at London.
