Help with Iridium 9505A please!

I recently purchased a (second hand- obviously) 9505A. I went to Telstra, organised a $10 per month casual plan and then rang up the appropriate section to organise global roaming. Tonight I received an email stating the roaming had been actioned.

However the phone switches on okay, the screen states "Registering" but then a message comes up stating "Invalid Account" Anyone know what I'm missing?

Cheers,

Mark

Hello

I am not sure if its possible but could your phone be locked to a provider? Maybe ring Iridium and ask.

Also maybe a time lapse between when they say GR ok and when it actually works ..but not long. Another possibility ...are you a new Telstra customer? Some people have had issues getting global roaming activated if a first time subscriber as they are worried if you will default on payments. I didn't have an issue when I signed up (same setup as you) but it may depend on who you get on the end of the line.

Best I can offer.

Cheers

G`day Mark,
Just a couple of things that you have not mentioned that might help.

If you already have a Telstra mobile with a post paid account then all you need to do is get that phone enabled for International Roaming.

When you wish to use Sat phone just take the Sim Card from your Mobile and use it in the Sat Phone.

I haven`t used mine recently but the last time I did the charges then were just a bit less than $ 4.00 per min to make a call and a bit less to receive one, and it went on to your normal Mobile Account.

I found it very, very, extremely, extremely super difficult to obtain any info regarding using this method from Telstra, they just don`t want to talk about it.
I can assure you it works great but expensive.

Regards,

Scrubby.

Mark,
just ring and check that the sim has been enabled. I had the same thing happen to me.

I was told the sim was enabled. Rang Telstra and the girl checked and found it hadn't been. She fixed the problem over the phone.

Sorry about the lack of response, life's been a little hectic over the past few days.

Telstra assures me roaming is activated, so I'll give Iridium a call (or email) to see if the phone actually is locked.

Thanks for the assistance.

Cheers,

Mark

There have been quite a few threads on Sat Phones recently - apparently you also need to have 1900 numbers activated for the SIM to work? Do a search for "Iridium" in the Forum and you will pick them up.

Thanks for all the replies and advice. My phone is now working. Despite Telstra telling me Global Roaming had been activated, when I rang back (four days later) it turns out they had not activated it. This follow-up call was acted upon and, two hours later, a working phone!

Cheers,

Mark
