G'day all, GCR is currently closed to all vehicles from Laverton to shire boundary, 134km's East of the roadhouse. There are some storms about, and alot of hail has fallen in areas.
Forecast is for more storms today.

Cheers
Al

Thanks for that. We will be going that way but not until September, but do appreciate reports like this. Again, thanks, Kevin and Kris

No worries Kevin and Kris, we know how hard it can be to get up to date reports.
We'll see ya in September

Hello Al,
What is the fine or punishment for ignoring these sorts of closures in your area?

I have read elsewhere on the web of a couple of blokes in a Datsun planning to head on out past your way tonight.

The are apparently leaving from Perth this afternoon.

I believe the advice is to make it to the roadhouse and use the night bell, or just camp on the driveway until morning. I have been out that way once years ago, they were lovely people, I don't know if the same people are there now or not.

Hello Andrew,
The one's you speak of, are they the Australian bloke with his American wife?

I think his name was Al so maybe it's the same couple?

Geoff,

A quick google indicated
In NT, $1000 per wheel including spares. Car, trailer plus 2 spares for the car and one for the trailer = $9000. Ouch.

NSW says $1100 per axle.

The others weren't obvious without spending time so I didn't pursue them.

Hi Al......gee, thanks for the warning on the road conditions.

I'm planning to drive the GCR next year sometime so this warning has arrived in a timely manner !!

Is the GCR bitumen or dirt or is it going to be bitumenised anytime in the near future because I'd like to drive my mini moke along it ha ha it should make it OK though as they tell me lots of Nissan Patrols and old Land Rovers do it OK Ha Ha !!

Hope to meet you next year if you aren't in Darwin by then (where's the emoticons around here) :-(

And the road is now open to all vehicles and dried out nicely. Weather is bloody beautiful.
