Review: Simpson Desert

My Place Rating: My Rating 4/5

WAA, Frenchline & QAA Just finished a run west to east. 200 series and a Dodge Ram
French Line, Colson Track, WAA Line, Knolls Track, QAA Line from the NT (West End).
Track is rough on the West side of most dunes, some of the scalloping perhaps due to wind created ridges, but much of the deepness of the ruts are due to inexperienced drivers or poorly set up vehicles.
Hated doing it but found higher speed and letting suspension do the work was best, otherwise it was a slow walking pace and getting thrown side to side.
Took 3 1/2 days, plenty of wood if you are prepared to camp in between high usage areas, 6km detour around a swamp west of Purni bore (following 200mm rain at Dalhousie), but all in all a good trip. Both vehicles did it with ease, the Dodge is a beast
