fiat has taken the new 2014 ""cherokee into a new design
gone is the north/south drive train
together with the live rear axle
the old KJ/KK plat-form has gone as
well and replaced by monocoque design
what they have tagged --compact US wide --- incorporating east/west technology and primarily front wheel drive and ---jeep active drive----
the new east/west system has various motors petrol and diesel attached to a 9 speed ZF auto which is only suitable for east/west installations
this is the same 9spd as in RR evoque and was evolved from the 8spd ZF used in RR LR Disco /BMW x3's /& X5's /& VW amaroks
the petrol donk options will be
2.4 petrol 137KW 232NM
a new petrol 3.2 V6 199 KW -316NM
a new fiat diesel 2ltr including single and bi-turbo outputs
from 120KW to 145KW no mention as yet of the NM output
under the guise of jeep active drive there will be variations of single and dual drive
with crawl ratios and an extra ground clearance option
so in all an interesting package and only time will tell
as is always the case
they are due in Aust last quarter of 2013
I must say that I personally like
the all new body shape designed by fiat to me it looks quiet classy with smooth lines
but many hard core jeep fans will probably hate it
and the fact the brand has gone more SUV instead of sticking to the hard core old technology N/S live axle
the source of the imfo is from August 4x4 mag
and most probably already on a website some where
cheers
