Would any of you blokes out there know of any mechanical engineers in
Melbourne, that specializes in the conversion of petrol powered vehicles to diesel power, especially Ford's F series 4WD vehicles.

Royce.
The only conversion on a f series I have seen was an auto and I was trying to get the shift pionts right, it is very dificult to get an auto that uses manfold vacumm to determin shift pionts to work with a diesel. A manual would be ok. I dont know of any mechanic who has done one
well. My experiance of this type of conversion is that it never works out as
well as hoped and most people wish they had not started. It is usualy cheaper and bettter to buy the right vehicle than to convert some thing you have already. Eric.

These came out with a 6 cyl perkins diesel if my memory serves me correct.
There are other options such as the chev V8 diesel which is popular with mixed results.
Probably as Eric says, its easier and cheaper in the long run to buy a diesel powered vehicle outright unless you can do the bulk of ithe conversion yourself. To buy a good motor and pay for labour is going to cost upwards of $10k.
