Ian / Julie Do a search on the archives with a start date about 6 months ago. There was a thread on it. June last year, I think it was a private road and closed to the public. We came down turning off at Fairview across to Palmerville and hit the Burke development Road just after Mulgrave.
Road was reasonable and some nice country to travell through.Dare to Lead not to Follow

My understanding is that they cant shut either off these places, they are public areas. I have heard that they have shut the old Cobb & Co. track that enters from the north east(damn shame if this is true) but there are public roads that approach from the south east, I travelled this late 2003, and you could take your family sedan on them. If in doubt about any off the ways to maytown, phone the police at Laura or Cooktown and ask them.
The old Cobb & Co track was a joy to travell four years ago and it would be a real shame for 4WD'ers if this has become another memory only because of some small minded selfish land owner.( I heard it was only a small section of the track that was shut by one of the landowners,,, effectively closing it off completely)

I was there last august.
The old coach road was still open, so was the road from maytown to the development road due east.
The camping area by the Palmer river though had been bulldozed and the exit of the river crossing had large boulders across the track.
The track that goes from the crossing due west which can be used to link with Chilagoe etc has been closed where it goes through the private property.
