Staying at Mildura for a couple of months and the house has a huge, (900mm Dia) fire pit, or that's what I call it.

It sits on three steel legs about 400 mm long. and the pit sides are about 100mm high.

Years ago I also saw a huge frying pan about 800mm dia.

Does anyone know where I can get them. I have looked on the net, but no luck yet.

We are building on a 10 acre block and the pit and the pan would be great in the camp 'kitchen' I propose to build near the house.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can't say I've ever seen a frypan that big for sale anywhere Boo Boo, have seen very large ruted out pots / camp ovens from old mining community camps . . .

If you have trouble locating one, it wouldn't be hard to fab up, or have fabbed up.

Suitable size dia base, rolled edge say 80mm high, could be angled so it could have sloping sides, weld her up, weld a solid handle on (maybe double handle at 90degrees for lifting ?), and you're away.

Mild steel, season well as per other such cookwear, and lightly oil after use, should last for years.
Suppose it could be made in mill stainless, but would be a lot more $$$.

Thanks Les

The one at this house has curved sides and is one piece of metal.

Having said that if I can't find one like this one then what you suggest would still do the job.

This one also has the base sloping down to the middle and there appears to be a bit of a bolt at the lowest point.

I agree that mild steel would be the way to go.

Boo Boo, look for paella pans and there are plenty on the common auction site, even 900mm diameter.

I am planning to get a two piece chiminea before too long. Perhaps not quite as large in diameter as you are talking of, but multifunctional. I did see a fire pit in Bunnings a week or so back but I thought the construction was very light and didn't think it would last. Certainly wasn't cast iron.

You could perhaps look out a bent tractor rim for your tyre pit. I remember seeing some massive steel rims for fire pits at Warraweena, I think from mine vehicles. I must say I still look out for something like that as long as it doesn't cost too much.

I'll start looking at auction sites and see what I come up with.

try hillbilly camping for both the fire pit and the frypan.

Hi Boo Boo.
Rang my brother in law to get the details. He imports them from Germany because he could not source them anywhere else. They are not cheap but if you are interested PM me and i will send you his contact details.

Cheers Graeme.
