Roof racks

Hey guy's, just wanted to ask around who has had experience with cheaper roof racks. I was considering getting a tigerz11 roof rack at around $365. Has anyone had any problems with these? I would be getting one to suit a roof-top tent. I was looking at a Black Widow, but to be honest, I can't justify the expense at this stage in my life!

Perhaps when I can afford the newest Landcruiser at the time (whenever it is) I can afford all the nice Black Widow stuff that will go with it :-)

Thanks in advance
Josh

don't have any 1st hand experience with these but have read recently that they rust quite badly. Maybe owners who have had them a while will know for sure.

Hi Josh

You might want to read the post at this link before spending the dollars. You might be buying grief.

It appears to me that the problem is probably electrolysis. If so, this is hardly the sole fault of the manufacturer. Any time two different metals are left in contact with each other they will corrode, especially if out in weather. It is simply bad practice to leave a roof rack permanently on a vehicle.

I guess I had better start saving my bikkies then! I can't risk having it rust in a few years, and then sending rust into my cruiser (which is rust free and has been forever).

Perhaps I can find something still cheaper than Black widow but perhaps just as good.

ARB, TJM I'm sure they are good?

I have 3 second hand Rhino roof racks. They are the gutter grippers if these suite.

I use the rhino 3 bar heavy duty system for my top top tent and awning and works a treat, it's aluminum so no rust and bolts to the allocated mounts in roof, on and off in a couple of minutes
