I use my winch every month just to keep it working. It was working fine last month and went to check it today, nothing. One of the bush mounts broke. An easy fix but what if I hadn't checked first and need it.. How often do you check your winch???. I always check it before going off road and after a lot of water crossings.

Welcome to the reality that is aftermarket accessory maintenance'.

Given the haphazard nature of winch waterproofing, or 'water resistance' as the manuals refer to, I believe they require a good look at everytime there's a heavy dew.

I have repaired many that have never been used, but failed when required to perform. And seen some that perform year after year without so much as a glance.

So I guess it's an unknown, dependant on may variables. As often as you think you need to I guess.
