Hi everyone, we are looking at buying a !00 series GXV turbo diesel auto. or a later model GXL turbo diesel 5 speed auto. Does the fuel economy differ ? What are the pros and cons of these models ? Some have 300000 + kms ? How long do they generally last? What are there limits when looked after ? Are there any issues with these vehicles ? I like the GXV . For the Diff lock and sunroof. My other half likes the later GXLs. Opinions please ?

Bob,
I have a 2004 GXL auto TD. It is definitely the best tow vehicle I have had and will keep it until my touring days are done.
When I was looking to buy I tried a range of vehicles and read everything I could find, especially LCOOL. The consensus then was that the 5 speed was better than the 4.
If you service and maintain a GXL then it will last well over 500,000 without major repairs. Many go far longer.
My other half regularly makes comments like it is too big and hard to park but she never miss a chance to drive it when she can get me out of the seat.
Toyota mostly does improve things when they upgrade models. I would definitely go for the 5 speed GXL.
Cheers

I have an 04 GXL turbo diesel 5 speed auto, gets 15lts to the 100 klm day in day out pulling a 19ft 6 compass van, just put it in drive and let the box do the work, by far the best tow vehicle I have ever owned apart from my Western Star.
