The kennel has Yokohama Geolander H/T-S tyres on it does anybody know what they are like as an all terrain tyre? They dont appear to have much wear on them and look okay.
Thanks Stuart and Gunny

I had the Geolander HT on a Subaru and I thought they were rubbish and soft as butter. My tyre guy had to twist my arm to get me to try the Geolander AT-S. The AT-S turned out to be an excellent tyre, I couldn't believe the difference.

The geolanders in all terain are one of the best AT tyres available, particularly if you expect them to work on the road.

The are also one of the few that come with a road hazard guarantee.

cheers

They are on your car & you own them. If they have plenty of life left in them as you indicate, why would you ditch them & pay $1k plus for replacements ? If you find you
cant stand them..fork out for new ones, but why not try them first.
cheers....oldbaz.

Stuart, do you know how old the existing tyres are? Tyres have a life of about 5 years whether the tread is worn down or not. If you will be doing extesnive driving, especially in hot conditions old tyres can bulge and eventually fail. If they are close to 5 yrs old or older I would replace them all for peace of mind. If you will be going into remote areas in might be worth having 2 spares.

Hi Wamuranman
The tyres appear to be only a year or so old. They are in excellent condition so i may give them a go and see how they go.If i find there no good of road i will replace them.On tar they seem great.

The build date of tyres is stamped into all tyres, and age of tyres is a very important factor - particularly when you're operating heavily-loaded tyres at speed.
Alway check your tyres load ratings to ensure you aren't exceeding their specified load capacity.
It's easy to do this with a caravan or motorhome.

Bridgestone state that their tyres are guaranteed free from manufacturing defects for 5 yrs - and they also recommend that 6 yrs is the maximum life for tyres.

http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/passenger/care/age.aspx

However, that 6 yr lifespan is the subject of much debate - and provided a tyre is kept cool and out of the sun when not in use, you can probably get around 10 yrs out of tyres.

The tell-tall sign of ozone damage to tyres is crazing or fine cracking in the rubber in either or both sidewalls or tread.

Yoko ht-s isn't an all terrain, it's a highway tyre. It wouldn't take very much off highway stuff to be asking too much of it. The ats is a cracker of a tyre but that's not what you've got and if lowering tyre pressures and carrying weight off road is your go, the hts should be traded in before they aren't worth anything.

I've no idea of your intended usage. I'd confirm that they have a more than adequate load rating for the kennel when it's loaded for a start. I just checked out your other thread - nice rig. I'm sure you'll have a ball with it.
