This is one for the budding engineers out there, I have a 150 prado with the roof rails, I have a set of 2 Thule roof racks on top. I want to make up a couple of brackets, on passenger side to mount an awning which is 2.5m long. On the other side I would like to make the same to take a set of maxtrax and a shovel. The thing is I would like all of the brackets to be, as such, quick release and removable. But when fitted with the gear stowed, be able to lock all in place. I just want to be able to fit it all when going away, and remove it all, when doing the commute thing.. I would have got a full rack, but think this way may be easier, without the constant wind drag.. Any ideas would be a big help. Thanks. Odog

Odog,
Perhaps some RHS, one size sleeving into bigger size, and locked together by a Shaft Lock Pin(available from Ovesco). The bigger size RHS could bolt to your Thule racks?
You'd need to weld a bracket on end of removable pieces, to mount the awning/Maxtrax holders. Aluminium would be the go, lightweight, but need a mig to weld it.
Bob.

Rhino have a mass of items that would do as you ask, I do not know if they will fit your Thule system.
Try
Rhino roof rack accessories

Here you go. There is a guy on Pradopoint that makes and sells mounting brackets for Maxtrax:

The concern I have is....are those roof rails strong enough for what you are looking at doing.
I know the maxtrax are pretty light, but an 8 foot awning on roof rails sounds a bit sus to me.
that 8 foot awning can produce quite a bit of leverage.
They realy are not expecting you to carry much on the roof of most of these modern SUV style 4wds.
cheers
