Good morning all,
I am just pondering a problem I am having with our computers, every time we log on to something we get invites to do a survey, even this site wants me to do a travel survey and a four wheel drive survey, and I may win a prize, and to be quite truthful I am over them does anyone know how I can block them from coming onto my screen please. I am no techno head and have limited computer knowledge. I come onto the computer to get away from the tv and all their adds, so I realy don't want them on my computer
thank you for you responses

I am about to leave the computer for a bit. So I just assume you are using IE.
You can do this with this page open, so you can follow this whilst reading.
Top right hand corner of your screen you should see a little house a little star and a little cog wheel...Click on the cog.
Click on "internet options"
Click "privacy" which should be the third tab along.
On the privacy page you should see a small
check box with "turn on pop up blocker" written next to it. Click on the box so that a tick appears in it.
Then click "apply" at the bottom of that window.
Then click "OK"
If that does not help let me know.

You are welcome :)
Don't want to alarm you. But since you have been getting pop ups, you might now have unwanted cookies. You can use Windows
tools to clean things up, but third party cleaners are more popular and easy to use.
I use one called CCleaner. It is free. They have it listed for download on snapfiles. Snapfiles actually
check all their downloads so they are safe. Or there are other reputable software sites.
This is direct to them -
http://www.snapfiles.com/ then just type cclean in the search box.

Hi Herbal,
I'll get the techno kids onto it this afternoon when they come over for the weekend visit. They seem to know all about this stuff, they fixed my I phone the other day when I wanted to down load the photos from the phone to the computer. thank you very much for the info.

Blocking pop-ups (all or selected) is an option in your browser tools.
Firefox 11: Tools>Options>Content, tick
the block popups box.
Explorer: Tools>Popup Blocker
Doesn't stop them all.
There are free blockers and ad cleaners available for download. Google "popup blockers".

I don't respond to the surveys. Most are just data gatherers in my opinion.

Hi Broodie
Have a read of
this story. I came in on it when something similar was happening on my husband's laptop. Pop ups were already blocked, but we were getting 'surveys' and other pop ups which I thought were nasty stuff. I followed the links and recommendations there, and although I wasn't getting exactly what they said, what ever I did do in trying to follow this advice solved the problem.
"You are infected with the 'text enhance'. Here is how to remove it.
http://botcrawl.com/how-to-remove-text-enhance/"
If you are a bit more technical than me, you will have it solved in no time.
Motherhen.

Pleased to hear your good news Broodie. Although I don't know exactly what I did, I think my husband's laptop has been clean ever since. I only use it when we go away or the power goes off.
