Have you adjusted the thermostat?

It might sound odd, but fridges can get colder in hotter climates. They stay on longer trying to battle the heat and so frost up quicker. They might be right about opening the door...I take it is an upright? So each time you open the door the cold air drops outs. Warmer and humid air goes in, so each time you open the door you are adding a little bit more water for it to freeze.

If it is only 12 months old, a leak in the seal is slim but possible. It can be very difficult to see. One way to check is try sliding a sheet of paper between the seal.

I believe the distributors of the Nova Kool are Ocean Solutions , I've had some dealings with these people and they have been extremely helpful, might be worth giving them a call;

Where were you before, inland? Cairns is pretty humid so there will be a lot of moisture in the air that will promote frost build-up.

With the humidity in Cairns once a week is realistic. Ensure all foods and salad are wrapped to prevent moisture. Other issue the thermostats in Nova Kool are not good and need changing to electronic thermostat. Repaired heaps of Nova Kool fridges. Definitely not a fridge brand I would buy.

Humpback if you are still in Cairns try Heatcraft 0740354300 for the electronic thermostat they aren't cheap otherwise try off ebay heaps of cheaper types. I have had an electronic thermostat fitted to our 220L Waeco Coolmatic since 2005 and also to my Trailblaza since 2000 and they work faultlessly not like the unpredictable Mechanical types.
