Am looking for a complete wiring harness for my 1978 FJ40 with 2H petrol engine. The donor vehicle I have is a later model and also a diesel. The harness for the project is in the rear parts box, cut in pieces (not by me). So I need to start somewhere. Any
feedback or leads as to where I can source would be great.

If you don't want to stay original you can fit a universal wiring loom.

We have fitted a few of these kits by another company to customers hotrods, they come up very neat.
The other thing you can do is make the loom up yourself or take it to an auto elec to do.
