Hi all...I love reading the various mottos that the members use..and was wondering what the inspiration might be behind them {bonz..yours is obviously from painful experience lol} Mine at the moment is just a reflection on life in general having had both parents suffer from cancer..one appreciates life and living even after a jar of Jelapenos! Some of you might have a particular place in mind when you wrote it...and Richard I'll believe that you're cute - long legs are always a winner :)

Mine just says what it says......maybe I should revert to Never a Dull Moment 'cause that is what life is like in this household.

I wouldn't get too excited about those emu legs..... they are awfully skinny.

41 at midday out here on the plains near the Flinders..expecting 45 by 3.00pm.

Hiding in the cool of the house.

Happy Valentines Day Mrs Al xxxx

Couple of my favourites

"you'll never get run over if you don't cross the road" (On my death bed I want to have no regrets what I have done, not regrets what I would have like to have done"

I'm sure somebody will tell me who coined that phrase (and its correct wording)

and

(Dont like this one but it's been thrown at me most of my adult life)

"Laughter leads to tears" (or never try to enjoy yourself because something might go wrong)

Its too bloody hot

Gee Mrs Al - I was feeling sorry for myself here. 34 overnight and 42 now at midday. Seems we aren't the only ones having hot weather. This is about our 8th day in a row. We are all skulking around in the houses with air conditioning too. Sorry you didn't get anything for VDay - even I got a beautiful bunch of flowers - came on the mail plane from Charleville (800 klms away) on Thursday afternoon. I was very thrilled and impressed until I realised with some cynicism that it is probably because I mentioned buying a fishing boat this year - I caught him ringing up and getting prices the other day. That Willie's a bit naughty isn't he? How come the temps are so high everywhere? Going for a drive today - up to the Dingo Caves - the a/c in the car is better than the one in the house. Haven't been out of town for weeks. Hope everyone has a good day.

Hey Mrs Al - what's a brittany? I've got two large chocolate labs and a mongrel birman cat. They usually dig thousands of holes in the sand under the house but one of them can slink his big belly low on the ground and sneak in through the small cat door to get into the a/c. Then the other lab runs around barking frantically to let us know that his brother is inside. The cat sits outside the front door and bashes the cat flap so it hits the door and drives us all crazy. Our vet Roger Absolom who comes up from Port Augusts (in his holidays) has a wolfhound, but I don't know the brittany.

Hi Ruth..

a Brittany used to be called a Brittany Spaniel, but the Spaniel bit has been dropped off. They are a gun dog..he's a great dog...a bit young still, but certainly if I were a shooter he'd be pretty good, stalks ducks and other birds here all the time. They are a medium sized dog, his colouring is white and red. He's great fun and the kids love him..very trainable and eager to please....click on my pick..and you'll see him...Life - Live it , Love it !

Mrs Al, I could not think originally enough but my travelling is nearly always unplanned and seldom in the past long enough to be relaxing. I always ask if we turn left or right at the gate.

In the past it has not not really been exploratory here in Oz - til we got this outfit anyway, or learned how illequipped with the silver Germerican. I am intrigued with the comments of others with some minor exceptions LOL I won't identify which.Regards

You may have noticed my new byline (1 week old)
Here's another:

"The wild charm and exciting desire that induce an individual to undertake arduous tasks that lie before an explorer, and the pleasure and delight of visiting new and totally unknown places, are only whetted by his first attempt."

So which famous Aussie explorer wrote that?

Cheers

Rick ( S.A.) - " Why explore? It is as well as for those who ask such a question that there are others who feel the answer and never need to ask."

Well Done!! How did you come up with that??(You must be well read?)

What about this one:

"The desert is not just a place where greedy men may find precious metals. It has something more to offer in making us aware of the ultimate questions in life."

Cheers

My byline is from Sir Wally Herbert. (Buggered if I know anything about him.............it's just a good quote)

Here's another beauty, from C.T. Madigan :

"It is better to travel hopefully than arrive."

Madigan also said:

"The success of an expedition depends primarily on the preliminary organization."

Mrs Al,
I rolled my Ford Escort over driving in a forrest stage of a rally in the UK in the late 70's, the comment is use was made the tow truck driver when he came to recover the vehicle from the ditch it landed in. Considering where I go now with my fourby the comment seemed to fit and always reminds me of that fateful night. Willem has pointed out it means something else from his country of origin, but I'll stick to my meaning............. Keep the shiny side up

Never walk in front [ I may not follow ] and the smell may be foul.

Never walk behind [ I could be seriously lost ] and the smell may not be pleasant.

Allways walk beside me [for we are equals] and if we are in the "poo" at least we are together...

Part of our marriage vows and still abide.

Better late than never...

I was trying to plan a weekend away camping with my brother and his family and every time I suggested something he would come up with an excuse not to do it. I told to bloody stop making excuses and start making some bloody plans or I'd go without him. It worked. Make plans... not excuses.

you sure know how to draw a response don't you ?

How about these beauties I've been saving

1. I started out with nothing and still have most of it.

2. I finally got my head together, now my body is falling apart.

3. Funny, I don't remember absent minded ........

4. If all is not lost, where is it?

5. It is easier to get older than it is to get wiser.

6. The only time the world beats a path to your door is when you're in the bathroom

7. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would have put them on my knees.

8. It's not hard to meet expenses, they're everywhere.

9. These days, I spend a lot of time thinking about the hereafter .... I go somewhere to get something and then wonder what I'm hereafter.

The Pilbara is uncharacteristically wet & humid and has been all week.
See Russell's latest post about Port Hedland and you'll get some idea. It has been cooler (unlike you guys) of late due to the rain but I've no doubt that's about to come to a dramatic end any day now. Such is life !

At least I'll be able to play in the mud these days off !!!Live the life you love -
