Hi everybody,
Does anyone have anything to say about the BT50's rather open underneath middle section. The auto transmission area is a vast open area, compared to the Ranger. This may cause some issues if going off road from time to time. On the Ranger this area is braced etc. and not open like the BT50. Look forward to your comments.

Bob.

Bob,
I have done 47,000 km with my BT50 manual. I have had no problems whatever underneath my vehicle. I have been through numerous water crossings, dirt roads, bush tracks etc. Part of my travels have been towing a van plus boat on roof of car and other stuff in canopy of car.
More than happy with the vehicle. Must say though I did upgrade suspension at 9,000km

Thanks Burnt Damper,
Why did you have to upgrade the suspension? Is the Rangers heaver compared to the BT50 and this requirement would not become necessary or is this something that becomes necessary after time.

I am led to believe that the Mazda has a heavier suspension than the Ford. In my case I had way to much weight and it failed up near Weipa and I replaced it with Old Man Emu at Atherton. best thing I have ever done.

Thanks,
How much weight? The payload over the back axil in my case (5th wheeler) will be around 360kg.

Bob, I had way, way more weight than 360kg. I don't know how to contact you but if you can find a way I am more than willing to tell you anything about my vehicle. It has been great to me and I have been to heaps of different places. Not thrashing it by any stretch of the imagination, just general run of the mill looking around on and off road touring.

Might have something to do with each manufactures intended market, Mazda aimed at the passenger/tradie/on road market and Ford at the truck/heavy duty/off road market.

Advertising from both gives this impression, the Mazda rides more car like as compared to the Ford.

Ford may of based this on the Rangers bigger brother; the F truck.

From the vehicles I have seen, BOTH have FoMoCo on the rear springs and seen from behind the wheel on both sides and so I thought they were the same rears at least.

Big difference in ride, we drove the BT50 and hated it and didn't hold much hope for the Ranger, after driving the Ranger we made our decision....... like chalk and cheese.

Olcoolone, when you made your decision were you towing a rig or is it based on just driving the vehicles?

Olcoolone, when did you drive the BT50? The suspension has been changed with the 2013 update along with chassis strengthening to tow 3.5 tonnes. We are happy with the ride of our 2013 BT50, and we are fussy!

the two cars ride exactly the same.....
test drove both a few times to compare and found absolutely NO difference.
they have the same dynamics the same running gear and the same suspension parts.
same part numbers out of the factory as far as I know.
if there is any difference it would be so marginal ........
