ExplorOz - David & Michelle
I have had a number of people wondering what the 200K vs 50K roads update means and what is the target for updates to the
EOTopo 200K product.
Well we have just been working through some areas of the Victorian High Country and I have some samples to show you where the product is going.

Topo 200K Map - Original 250K Data

Update Map Data
As you can see the label updates are significant and in fact we have had to adjust the labeling of the unsealed roads to make sure we fit as much as possible onto the map. The roads in this section have also been re-aligned to the latest data and this area and a whole lot of other areas will be 50K updated in the next release.
In time we will be producing maps at 50K, 100K and 200K so this is the driving force for getting our updates to the 50K level. It is a massive task and for roads networks updates alone to go from 250K base to 50K data takes about 6 hours per sheet (Australia is 512 sheets).
So when you are buying the
EOTopo 200K product you are buying a map set being built from data (being updated all the time) at a much higher scale, hence the accuracy will be much better than anything else currently available. We actually have to filter out some of the 50K data to build the 200K product. Of course once the 50K & 100K products come out the detail will be provided at these scales.
Initially we are working towards having 100K scale maps for the ExplorOz Treks, on our 100K & 50K scale maps we will be including a great number of ExplorOz place features embedded in the map. We are avoiding adding too many features on the 200K map as all these labels and markers really mean nothing at the 200K level and only tend to cover up contours, rivers and other important topographic map features.
I hope this helps

Hello
Ozf4 format will not work with Androzic - requires Ozf2 or Ozf3. One possible workaround would be to get ecw version of
EOTopo and convert to Ozf2 or Ozf3 using an older version of img2ozf but that would depend what file size they are as some of the larger ecw files are difficult to convert (I am not sure what ecw files are supplied with
EOtopo or how big they are). Another plan would be to convince David to supply the product as Ozf2 instead of Ozf4 :)....or use OziExplorer for Android.
Cheers

Guys,
The OZF files are supplied in OZF4 as this is the current version.
The ECW files are sized as below:
AUS - 2.82GB
NSW/VIC - 728MB
NT - 495MB
QLD - 0.99GB
SA - 584MB
TAS - 63.8MB
WA - 1.03GB
I hope this helps.

Hi
Difficult to provide a format that suits everyone. ECW is pretty universal so that would cover many bases. It is unfortunate that OZF4 can not be used in any program except Ozi (or converted) - assume programs like Androzic will catch up once they figure out how to utilise the new format. I have not noticed any user benefits in OZF4 over the older ozf formats ...I think the main aim of the new format was to restrict the use of images in that format to OziExplorer. I supply the Gold and Ghost geology maps in ozf2 (and ecw) so that everyone is happy.
There shouldn't be any problem in converting the ecw images to OZF2/3 by the looks - except maybe the all Australian 2.8gb one - may need a pretty good PC with lots of memory. The old version of img2ozf can be found on the yahoo ozi user group files section (I think).
Cheers
