The item is of no use unless the base of the fastener is affixed to a solid surface via a screw supplied. If you want a snap-fastener to act as a 'stud type button' like those found on jeans, jackets or bags this IS not the item for you. Unfortunately the description provided does not mention this. I fail to see how it can be used on a tent.
