Looking for some
feedback re travelling to
Lawn Hill, we will be travelling up from
Adelaide towing a 26ft van with an F 250,the plan is to get to
Tennant Creek and then head down the
Barkly Highway and then up the
Gregory Downs -
Camooweal Road to
Lawn Hill, is this the best way to go.
Cheers

Its a dirt road but in good order most times of the year. We were on it in late June this year. A bit dusty with other traffic, but a good road surface.

Hi Tony do you remember how long it took you to drive to
Lawn Hill after you left the
Barkly Highway

We stopped and camped about 1/2 hour south of the hotel. From memory a bit over 2 hours to there.

Humpy,
Instead of turning off at
Camooweal, proceed down the Barkly H'way towards Mt Isa, and turn off about 70km east of
Camooweal. There's bitumen for about 56 kms, before the gravel starts.
Either way, it's a pretty interesting drive, with numerous creek crossings and hilly country. Not a good road to travel after storms, as the creeks can hold you up for a while.
Bob.

Was there in October this year. Road has some corrugation's however you will have no problems getting in. Just remember to book online at Parks Qld before you go. A great place to chill out with clean showers and
toilets . A paddle to the end of
the Gorge is worthwhile. $50 for two hours canoe hire if you haven't got your own. A walk to the
Lookout to watch the sunset is also a must. Was one of our favourite spots in over 7 weeks on the road. In through
Gregory Downs would be the best way to go.

When you hire the canoe make sure it is not leaking BEFORE you head off , ours was and we did not realise just how bad it was until we had gone some distance...luckily we had the top of the valuables drum to use as a bailer

Hi Humpback
After phoning Adel's Grove
campground for advice, we took the
Riversleigh Road both ways rather than via
Gregory, and had no problems. I have
Blogs (2009) here about the trip and you are welcome to look through them and ask any further questions if they arise.
Lawn Hill is beautiful and a must-see part of Queensland.

G'day Hump,
We were there last year and came in from the north. I have a couple of
blogs about the area and travels that can be found on EO like this one,
Lawn Hill and like MH we stayed at Adel's Grove which is the most suitable particularly for a large van.
Kind regards
