Nissan service in Cairns

Hi All,

My Nissan Patrol will be due for a major service whilst we are in Cairns. I would prefer this to be done by Nissan dealer for warranty. I would appreciate any feedback on the local Nissan service.

Hi Kevin and all. I appreciate your preferring to have it done by a Nissan dealer but for warranty purposes any dinkum garage can do the service without affecting your warranty and, in my experience, have less of an effect on your wallet. Over a good number of years I have had new vehicles of various makes and have always taken them to a place in Brown St, Manunda in Cairns called Jap Motor and Carby and I have a very high opinion of this bloke. I have no agenda in mentioning this business but I believe in saying it how it is based on personal experience. Hope this is of some assistance. Cheers.

Sorry I misread your post, someone who lives up there should be able to tell you. Having said that, a major service is all fluid replacement, wheel bearings etc, surely they should have that down to a fine art! regards Michael

I had my Mazda BT 50 serviced by Westco last year 30,000km service. I called 3 weeks prior and requested a new air filter as I was working in a dusty remote area near the Palmer River.
It took Westco 6 hours to do the service the filter was not there, the car motor was covered in oil, the dust box on my air filter was not even cleaned out. I had to make all sorts of threats to get the air filter I needed and requested
I met some people there that were getting a new clutch put in their Nissan they were disgusted in the service supplied.
I had to travel 4 hours each way to get this done and will never go back or recommend any one else to go there.
Sorry to sound negative but this was mine and someone else's result from Westco lack of good service.
It is also the dearest place I have ever had my vehicle serviced. Now 48,000km

I confess I've never used Westco but they have had a very poor reputation locally with all makes for quite sometime.

If based on the southside of town try Cape York Automotive, they know modern 4WDs inside out, if on the northside DC Motors Smithfield is thoroughly reliable. I've heard both good and bad about Jap Motor and Carby, he’s the brother-in-law of a mate of mine.

After being recovered from the Cape Tribulation track (north side of the Donovan Range) with a blown auto transmission back in September 2012 and taken to Mossman by RACQ I was then transferred to Westco Motors to have the warranty work done on my D40. I found Westco to be absolutely professional in sorting the warranty issues with Nissan Australia and apart from the few days taken to transport the parts from Melbourne to Cairns the work was done quickly and I had the car back in about 8 days. The office staff at Westco kept me informed throughout and kept pestering Nissan head office to ensure that I was looked after. I would definitely go back to Westco if I was in Cairns again.

Personally would give Westco a miss.
Stuffed up regular services on our Navara numerous times.
Even got the oil leak on our garage floor to prove it.
Excuse for that one was a faulty oil filter.
Commenced a service on our car that was for another vehicle.

Hi Kevin, Just a word of advice about Nissan Cairns. Not to long ago I had to replace the Injector pump on my Patrol. I was told by RACQ it would cost over Five thousand dollars. I could not believe this , so I rang Nissan in Cairns Me being a local. I told them what RACQ told me. They said that they have made a mistake and went away to get me a price. When he came back. He told me that they were wrong with their price and that it would cost $7000.00 just to purchase the Pump, and 16 Hours to replace.

I took the car back to Pacific Toyota where I purchased it and they had the pump rebuilt old one out and the new one back in $3300.00 But I a small insurance of $1000.00. Which brought it back to $2300.00.

So go and get a few prices here in cairns. Been here 41 years and its a rip off town.
