Hello everyone - Diamantina River in Birdsville is 6.8 metres - has fallen 1 metre and you can see the tops of the white posts peeping out on the road to the Bridge and racetrack. The water has receeded somewhat and the tops of the bulrushes are visible. Now that the green is peeping through the flies have turned up but only a few sandflies (thank goodness). At Nappa Merrie the Cooper is 4.17 metres and rising slowly and at Innamincka it is 5.7 metres and rising. Was feeling sorry for everyone in Vic and Sa with the hot weather yesterday and we started off here with overcast, drizzly and coolish - did not last long and is now 47. Phew.

Ian said tonight that he can see the BIG fish out the front (must have x-ray vision in the muddy water) - anyhow, if we survive the heat tonight we'll dash out and set some lines in the a.m. Ian says BIG is 6 pounds. We've just come back from going out towards Big Red - had to go over the sandhills through the middle of the Golf Course and run parallel with the normal road. It's a really nice trip and sitting on the end of one of the sandhills you can see how far the water stretches - we didn't go all the way to Big Red but sat out there watching an extremely large storm (lightning and all) down in the south-east.
What did everyone else do at the weekend - don't tell me you sat around at home and did the washing. Yuk.

Thanks for the updated Ruth.
When do you anticipate the roads to be open again.
Hope you get a decent feed of fish soon.I'd rather have my bum on a beach in Broome
Than be stuck here in this damn room.

Hi Des, see above about the fish. Now about the roads - hmmmmm, not know yet. Supply truck from SA is going to try for 3 weeks. Good bit of water going over the Track at the Pandie Pandie/Clifton Hills boundary. This will be the decider. The way the water is dropping here we should be able to get to the river and racetrack maybe at the weekend. That'll be as far as we can get for another week after that, maybe a bit further.
Road to Boulia still cut also - Marion Downs, between Bedourie and Boulia goes up and down like the proverbial brides nightie - ooops shouldn't say that. Talk soon.

I'm not standing in a corner with those two, If they wear nighties, there definitely not the kind of people who I associate with.
Besides, Willie and Bonz both drive Nissan's and what does that say about them.
Do you remember the characature of Willie, he's not a pretty sight and as for Bonz, there hasn't been a camera invented yet that won't break after taking a picture of him.
Throw the emu in there, he doesn't do much all day anyway. He will make the other two look attractive.I'd rather have my bum on a beach in Broome
Than be stuck here in this damn room.

Look here Mr Lexik...you are pushing the limits of this friendship.

Have you looked in the mirror lately? You may be on a par with the emu.

Sorry Auntie Ruth....I will not stand in the same corner as Mr Lexik...he's a nasty man....:-(Willem

What a girl's blouse you turned out to be! Think of al those adventurers of the old days who struggled through this country in the horse and dray with Mum and the 15 kids - all trussed up in their 15 petticoats and having to walk most of the way. (Geez, thank goodness I've got a Toyota with airconditioning - but I feel really inferior during the season because I haven't got a snorkle, only a wireless aerial and UHF aerial, skinny tyres on split rims, no roof rack, oh yes, spare tyre carrier on the back and that's it. A plastic 100 series (without central locking or tinting). Next time - I pay, I say. Ah Mr Mo - you're such a chicken, no, sorry 'mu.
