What do you want to run off it. I have been runnung an Engel Fridge very successfully for 5 years now without a problem.

Thanks,
I already run a fridge without problem. I was just interested to know the actual specs.

Peter,
the highest standard production power rating I've seen is 120W or 10 Amps. Most are fused at half this rating. The Engel typically draws 3-4 A max so power isn't the problem. The problem that can arise is the contact between the button on the plug and the centre positive terminal in the socket. If the contact is suboptimal then major heat bulid up can occur. This is why the Engel plug has a "special thermal fuse". If you unscrew the Engel plug it comes apart to reveal two prong electrodes. You can go out and by the Engel plug designed for this ($33 at ARB) and hard wire it in to your vehicle.Bob

Bob,
I totally agree with you. Ever since my Engel turned off due to cigi plug shaking out some time ago, I installed a proper plug and hard-wiring...no more problems.
The only thing I use my standard cigi plug for is as part of the input for my full in-car hands free phone kit. On the Patrol, the cig plug is located down low and in my case it is hidden by the head unit of the Barrett HF anyway, so the phone input plug just sits in there all the time and can't come out unless I remove the HF head.
Cheers,
Roachie

Hi peter , most cigarette lighter plugs are only about 2.5mm wire and only good for about 4 to 6 amps constant , although they have a 10 amp fuse it doesn't mean you can run 10 amps through it , most who do try end up melting the end off the back of the holder
best thing to do if you are using your fridge alot, is to hard wire in a engle A PAN ( if you are using an engle ) and not have to worry about volt drop through cigarette plugs.
regards
steve
