Hi all, After completing a 17500 km trip to the Kimberley from Sth Highlands NSW, Via Nth Flinders/Birdsville/Plenty/Tanami/Gibb River/South on bitumen then Great Central/West Mcdonalds last June/July we new we had to do the Simpson this year. While in Birdsville we saw all of these 4Wd getting ready for the trip, awesome! We need to do it.
So, we should be in Birdsville 20th April Approx and would prefer to travel with a group or one other vehicle for that added safety.

Any of you peeps planning pretty much what we want? We drive a 200 Landcruiser, running Cooper A/T3, pretty confident in our abilities.

Pen and I would love to hear from you.

Hi Ian and Pen
We are also located in the Sth. Highlands and have tentative Simpson plans about the same time as your planned trip. Have a busy schedule this year but will certainly keep your post in mind.

Hello Ian,

I note in your other post that you also tow a camper on your trips, and in case you are thinking of doing so on your Simpson crossing from Birdsville, I'd suggest careful consideration.

If you do plan taking the camper I'd suggest travelling west to east to get the best approach to dunes. There are also recommendations that trailer/campers not be taken into the Simpson.

In any case I hope you have a great trip, it is wonderful country.

Rgds,

Rob.

Thank you for your reply but we are not taking the camper to the Simpson.

Ian and Pen
your timing for the trip is either at the end or right in the middle of the school holidays depending on various states so I think you will find there will be plenty of people out in the desert so you wouldnt have much trouble attaching yourself to another vehicle or group of vehicles.Just talk to others around the caravan park at birdsville

dont forget the aeroguard flies are pretty awefull in april
have a good trip
cheers

Hi Ian & Pen,
My partner and I were hoping to do a Simpson crossing this year so may be interested. What sort of time frame are you looking at? I understand you are looking at crossing East to West, correct? Which line/s?

Cheers,
Neil

we giving our selves 2 weeks door to door, as for track really haven't decided which as yet, although I did see a blog on here where the trip took in 3 tracks. Will have to have a look at that blog trek again. When were you planning to make the trip?

Hadn't set dates - pretty flexible when, but I only have limited leave unfortunately. Allowing 3-4 days for the crossing we could probably sqeeze it in but any longer and we'd be pushing it. I may have to reconsider and look at doing it in June when I will have some more leave available.

Hadn't considered the Easter and Anzac Day holidays which occur within this time period so I reckon we can do it...
3 days to get to Birdsville, up to 4 days Birdsville to Dalhousie Springs, allow 5 days to get home to Geelong.
