Last time I drove that road was 50 years ago in a new series 2 Landrover. The road was good then except for the wombats holes. by now the road will be better and the wombats are probably almost extinct. Eric.

The main road south of Cook to the highway is 50m wide ........
In 2006 we drove north from the roadhouse via Knowles Cave and joined that road nearer Cook.
Much nicer....

I drove up from the highway to Cook last September. The sign on the highway said 4wd only and the road is not maintained but it was so good I would have had a good chance of getting a Ferrari up there.

In order to bring back a few memories, we turned left 10 ks from the highway on the return trip and followed the old unsealed section of the highway back to Nullarbor Roadhouse. Most of it was only two wheel tracks but it was very easy and something different.

Hi again. Is there any restrictions on pitching camp for the night at Cook or in the general area. What would do you recommend. Info to date has been excellent. Phil

We spent a night at Knowles Cave, a couple of hours looking around at Cook and then the next night at the shed tank about 100km south of Vokes Hill Corner (in the Woomera Prohibited Area).
Anywhere more than 1km south of Cook is Nullarbor Regional Reserve.

Peter
