Has anyone used the GPS that supercheap are selling for $229 and how do they compare with similar priced GPS in features and operation. Any feedback appreciated, thanks in advance.

Let the buyer beware. What are you going to use the GPS for, what features will you need ?? You can buy a reliable compass for $20.oo if that's all you need. But if I had to place my life in the hands of technology I would pay whatever to buy the best to suit my present & foreseable needs.
If you want to walk down to the local shops without getting lost it might be fine, if you are driving around in circles in the desert or lost in a forest you need something that preferably has an external aerial capability, a dash cradle, track-back, good memory for plenty of waypoints, 12 satelite tracking capability etc etc. I suggest haveing a look at a good GPS & then comparing the cheapy to see what's missing. DONT DONT DONT DONT DONT do it . . .

These are WITHOUT doubt the BIGGEST pieces of rubbish ever to grace us . . .

I had the misfortune of stupidily trying one.

I have a Magellan 310 which is very basic , works OK though, I thought I would get a Supercheap, cause it des have a better routing function . . .

It is SO inaccurate , its unbelievable.

Im In Canberra , so altitude is something like 650m above sea level . . . The supercheap should me at 45m above sealevel.

On a cloudy day . . . it could not pick up a Satalite at ALL . . . whereas my cheap Magellan was picking up 8 and the was INSIDE.

Do yourself a favour , and look elsewhere.

Mate, seriously . . . I couldn't believe HOW bad they were . . .

The guy at Supercheap (after I brought it back) , was actually surprised I bought one , wondered why it took me so long to bring it back . . . 24hrs later . . . . and has NEVER sold one , anyone has kept.

He is wondering why Supercheap persist . . .

PS, I'm generally a big Fan of Supercheap . . . so its not a supercheap bias.

Try ebay.com.au and pick yourself up a reliable Garmin or Magellan for around $200.

Rowdy,

This website might be of interest to you. (http://www.ja-gps.com.au/catalog.html#anchor4289858)
They sell the well known brand - Garmin handheld units for around the same price of the advertised supercheap dodgy brand.

Cheers

Thanks for all the replies, I'm seriously considering the garmin geko 201 or the magellan sporTrak map series. The more I look the more features I think would be handy but the $$ keep going up. The maps etc that can be downloaded is quite confusing to a novice and I'm not too sure if I would be committing an overkill for what I need, then on the other hand further down the track I may wish I went a model or two up the range to get a better feature. Guess I'll have to consider my options for a while longer.
