And what an experience it is, did it myself last year, one of the iconic 4WD treks you can do.

Great history, beautiful scenery, tough going and hardly a person in sight (Durba Springs excepted).

Should be on everyone's bucket list.

Traveled the CSR in 1998 before you needed permits to scratch yourself.
My advice is inform yourself of the history, take your time, make sure your vehicle is in top mechanical order, not much chance of doing a perish unless you tackle it in the summer months and enjoy.
IMHO the CSR isn't difficult from a 4wding point of view, just long and remote.
One more thing, even though many of the wells have been restored and several have good quality water take plenty...just in case.
