Not sure about Hilux but Toyota changed the injectors on the Prado D4D around March 2008 to overcome problems with the earlier verions.
The big issue now is with the injector seats failing it seems. If they haven't been changed for the latest ones they should be as it can cause catastrophic engine failure due to deposits building up on the engine oil pump filter screen, causing oil starvation and consequent engine failure.
Cheers

Nick, I have an '09 Hilux D4D with 4 speed auto and so far no issues with the injectors but I found very early that when heavily laden, driving up very steep, continuous hills on the
Bloomfield track the transmission light came on and I had to stop and idle until it went out. I believe that people who use these vehicles to tow, experience the problem often but I wasn't going risk transmission damage so I fitted a PWR transmission cooler in series with the standard radiator trans cooler and have never had the problem again despite many, much tougher
hill climbs since.
Hope this helps...
Chris

People who tow should always fit an oil cooler to the transmission.
Look at pradopoint.com for the latest on the injectors, both for Prado and Hilux. Same story for both.

They have been changed to a Diamond tipped injector for a long time now and no problems I'm told. I have a 2005 model and did
mine at 120,000KM.s am up to 200,000Kms now and all is good. I only run
Caltex Vortex Premium diesel nowadays. The vehicle runs so
well and with 200,000kms on the clock I have only had to replace the water pump, timing belt and had the clock spring done under warranty.
