Has anyone had the conversion from manual to automatic in a VDJ79 landcruiser done and if so your opinion would be greatly appreciated.

HI Ian, I haven't actually got a cruiser but I have been doing a bit of research on the 76 series and was thinking about the same thing. All I know is that Wholesale Automatics ( ask Orto ) in Victoria do the conversion for the 76 series and sounds pretty good (expensive) but it could be worth while..give them a call it can't hurt...

Hello Stinger, I have contacted Orto and got all the info. Was hoping to hear from somebody who has one or a least driven one.

Hi Ian
Look at the Feb DVD from 4X4 Action and you'll see Rodney doing a pretty fair sort of a recovery of a HiLux and Offroad Caravan up on Billygoat's Bluff. You'd struggle to do it with anything else. The conversion comes in at around the 20k mark but I'm sold on it. If you visit the workshop he told me that I could drive his truck and see for myself. The conversion drops your revs on the v8 to 2000 rpm at 100k's which would represent a big saving on fuel on a big trip. Hope this helps
Cheers
Bill
