There use to be a free one....well there were lotta of tents and free camp style happening when we were down there in '92 for a mates reunion. Not sure if that freebie camp is still available though.

Do not know if it is still available but the Events centre used to be the best value if there is nothing on there, try Googling that.

Exhibition Park is good value and in a very convenient location - close to all major attractions and the city centre with a shopping centre near by for general grocery shopping etc.
The campground is closed to the public when a show is on. They don't take bookings. Just ring ahead to check they are open (they usually are) and try to arrive by lunch time. You just pay at the office and then go and choose your site so first in best dressed. The sites below the amenities are the largest and most peaceful.
There is a dump point and pets are allowed.
Every Saturday there is a fantastic Farmers' Market in the grounds. Lynne

Hi Snow,
Canberra has changed a fair bit in 20 years! Exhibition Park is very convenient for access to the major attractions, but not free.

Cheers,

Val.

We stayed there in January this year (2014). A nice clean park, nothing to complain about.

One odd thing, the drive through sites are all bitumen, a bit hard to hammer in pegs if you want to put up an annex.

It is a little distance out of Canberra, but the roads and traffic were good, took less than 15 mins to be in the centre of the city from the Caravan park.

We also had a look around at some of the other parks, the Alivio Tourist park looked good too, but their pricing for kids made it too expensive for us. The EPIC showground camp also looked OK, but with just basic toilet, shower and laundry facilities. It was above 35 degrees most days we were there, so we needed the pool.

The other caravan parks we saw looked a bit tired and had seen better days.
