My wife and I are thinking of doing a crossing of the Simpson Desert starting around 8th or 9th June this year and taking the French Line West to East.

We are reluctant to do it with a single vehicle in case of breakdown or needing recovery etc and so would like to hear from anyone who is also planning a trip around the same time who would like to team up for the crossing.

We have a fairly well equipped Nissan Patrol with most of the essential gear - winch, recovery gear, UHF, high lift jack, compressor, etc etc.

At that time of the year you should be alright as there will be plenty of other people out there at that time

Thanks for the reply.

I am aware that there is quite a lot of traffic at that time of the year but I am conscious of trying not to have to fall on the mercy of passers by, should I get into trouble.

Is there an etiquette?

Most people out there are only too happy to help and often if they don't help you then they probably don't get around you anyhow. That aside why not become a member and register a trip in the members section. Will be out that way again around that time.

I believe that the Simpson travellers still up hold 100% Australian values.
You wont have a problem if help is needed.

The sandy coast line is unfortunately a different story, odds are 50/50

I am leaving Melbourne 0n 23-May heading for the Simpson. Me and a mate, one car so looking for similar 'support' as you.Well equipped 100 Series Landcruiser. We expect to be at the Western edge on about 27-May. We have never done the trip (the car has done it 10+ times with previous owner). Any use to you?
