Better to go here and ask that question

surf forum

For what its worth. I owned a 2.4 manual surf for 11yrs and never had a problem with parts or breakdowns.

Hi xr500,

I also owned the 2.4 ltr manual version, had it for 7 years, it never missed a beat, I had it down the Gibb River road twice, and to Steep Point several times, tough as nails.

Only problem I had was one blown tyre on the Gibb River road, hardly the vehicle's fault.

The surf is very closely related to the hilux.....one of the best serviced vehicles on the face of the plannet for parts...in particular aftermarket parts...ANd one of the cheapest.

You may have difficulty getting surf specific parts and body pannels, particularly from the dealer.....but there are plenty of hulks out there.

If you are accustomed to driving and working on old vehicles the surf should not present too many chalenges.....if however you are paying other people to fix everything and like to go to the toyota dealer.....its probaly not the vehicle for you.

Not all bull bars and tow bars are interchangeable i know for a fact. I sold my hilux bulbar and tow bar to a bloke with a surf, called me back saying they don't fit.

ALL Bullbars and tow bars are certainly not interchangable even between hilux models....but that is nothing new.

But a great deal of the mechanical parts are interchangable with some model of hilux or another.
