Took the opportunity this weekend to get out North of
Cooktown to see if we could get to Cape Flattery.
Made it over the
Morgan and down the track but it soon became obvious that a machine is needed to clear this track as there is a lot of Timber down. We did not get more than 500mtrs and gave up knowing how much timber was still to come.
Put a Hole in the Radiator which required a take out and repair job :-)
So decided to push up to Starke River and soon came across the area where the eye of the Cyclone would have been.
It appears it would have been high cat 3 as there is a Lot of Timber down and what is left standing has been rendered leafless with most limbs missing and snaped off at various heights.
Yes
Cooktown was very lucky to have been far removed from the eye of this storm. From our House in
Cooktown which was protected from the SE Gales, one can still say "Storm, what Storm"! You can see the most damage was around the area that always gets it in
Cooktown, the area behind
the Gap in the Hills!
