Planning a little fishing and surfing trip for a coupl of days up the coast
Is it still possible to drive along the main beach and can you bush camp or is it pay only at hungry head or near smoky cape.

I have had serious problems with my 3.0 td patrol but all is well now and the missus actually enjoys driving it.

This is not a four wheel drive trip I just dont want have walk up and down the beach chasung channels and good surf banks.

Hi Mad Mac
Last time I was up there there was no beach driving allowed along the main beach unless you were a licenced fisherman (read local) and out at hungry there was a charge for camping. dont know about smokey. great place though just the same. say hi to all the crowd up there-- Crowd? hahahah

Mac last year we did the drive from port Macquarie to Queens head then on to Cresent by dirt and about 2 k north of cresent we whent back onto the beach up to hat head then onto the beach to smokey cape you should get a beach driving permit .
They are about $ 20 apparently.

All the best
Eric

You can get the permit from the Tourist Info in Port but last time you also needed your rego papers with you (not just the car).

Where you get back onto the beach north of Cresant is just after the Bush and Beach camping area/resort.BEAR

Gday
You can buy those beach permits at Cresent caravan park aswell. Lovely place to explore, we stayed at a farm stay called Lauriedan, about 15k north of Cresent....2 minutes to the beach....let the tyres down to 20psi or you will have problems with the soft stuff. Drove from Cresent to south west rocks 99% on beach :-)
