Because my profession gives me a good understanding of fluid dynamics I can appreciate that this device cannot improve the issue of air/fuel mix in the engine intake system. The only effect it can have is to partially obstruct the flow and thus degrade engine performance.
Those who have fitted one and claim improved performance are deluding themselves possibly due to other engine maintenance performed or by changed driving habits. The manufacturers have resisted all overtures to submit the device to recognised testing institutions.
Their claim to 5 million units sold?? Maybe, they make some other wild claims too!

Some manufacturers have in fact incorporated plastic fin mouldings into their air intakes to create intake air swirl!

There are indeed fin mouldings and swirl devices in some factory air intakes.
But they are specifically designed for a purpose and in conjunction with the remaining air system...AND..they are not there for the purpose that hiclone claim.
The highclone claim is that disrupting the airflow improves performance.....mostly nothing of the sort.
There may be rare cases where the air intake into the carby is so poorly designed ( and a specific designe error) the swirling effect of the hiclone may make an imrovement....but this is the exception rather than the rule.
Like many other items and chemical that claim to improve performance.....it is "proven" by vage and unreliable observations.
cheers

The swirl device on the 200series intake is there to spin out the extra dirt and dust - simple as that.

Actually Shaker ,there is an improvement [only very minimal ] in fuel economy and a 'feel' of better throttle response if the original fan bladed restriction is removed , very common modification on the 4.0lt V6 as found in Prado and FJ Cruiser.

Also Shaker ,factory fitted is PRE air filter so any perceived 'swirl' would be negated by the air filter to begin with.
